I've heard the same story of overwhelm, confusion and frustration from hundreds of other business professionals, In fact, I've been there myself.

You're not alone. In fact, did you know that:

• 95% of all small businesses will fail within the first 5 years
• 4 out of 5 business owners actually leave money on the table because they spend so much time on things that are not making them money
• More than 85% of all business professionals have a fear of failing so great it literally keeps them paralyzed

• Management and top leadership is to blame when people fail

So why are so many business leaders doomed to fail?

The truth is, that just because you're a great salesperson, project manager, direct seller, networker, doctor, consultant, financial planner, mortgage broker, direct seller, speaker, etc., doesn't mean you're great at being an effective leader or helping the people in your company or department be their productive best.

In fact, the one thing that most contributes to business failure according to the National Women's Business Council is NOT money - it's one of these three things:

1. Lack of leadership skills.
2. Lack of mentors and advisors.
3. Lack of peer support.

Crazy, isn't it?

You can find all sorts of places to help you with the mechanics of reporting, writing a plan and setting goals, but nobody is teaching you what to do to truly manage your company or department in a way that supports the most important person - YOU!

So while it's not your fault, it IS your responsibility to decide whether you are going to be a statistic, or a success.  

You pick.  The decision is completely yours.

I have not always been a multi-million dollar success. 
In fact, I spent years struggling to figure it all out.

I remember way back in my first company.

Boy, was I stupid and I didn't even know it.

See I completely believed that I had to know every aspect of my company's functions before anyone could actually come in and help me with the management.  I spent hours (days, weeks and months was more like it) figuring out how to run the accounting software, the fax and copy machine, and the office filing system. 

(Believe me when I say these are not my strengths...)

Then I would meticulously show people how to work for me, using the systems I created.  Of course, the systems never worked because I didn't know what I was doing.

People quit at a rate of speed faster than a runaway locomotive with bad brakes.

...But I didn't think it was my fault.

One morning one of my employees came in and asked me how we made coffee. I pushed back my chair, got up from my desk, strode purposefully into our break room to start showing them how we made coffee...when I stopped cold in my tracks.

Now there's something you need to understand.  At the time, I was a highly paid computer consultant, making five figures in an afternoon for my skills, knowledge and expertise.

I had just been making money.

Now I was making coffee!

Yep, I had a thriving business, and the best use of my time was making coffee?

I stood over the coffee machine and got real with myself for probably the first time.  While everything looked great on the outside, the truth hurt.

• I had no balance in my life.
• My relationship was falling apart.
• I spent 16 or more hours per day trying to make it all work. 

That's when I had one of those life-changing ‘ah-ha' moments.

You know how it's always easier to look at things from a different perspective? 

Well, I was standing on a goldmine and didn't even know it. 

See, what I didn't tell you before is that my work in computers was all about systems - developing systems, breaking down security systems and creating better and more efficient systems for productivity.  I traveled the world, working in huge organizations making systems for other people and I didn't have any in my own business (or my life)! 

Duh!

Instead, I spent plenty of time thinking that no matter how great a job someone else did, it was never as good as I could do it myself, and in that moment I knew there was no way I could continue to grow as a leader if I kept stepping away from making money to make coffee.

That simple ‘ah-ha' moment was the beginning of a massive shift - from a life of struggling to survive to a life of success.  I began creating systems for everything - from personal growth to professional business development.  Since I was already a systems expert, I looked at everything from a new perspective. 

• Proper Delegation?  5 steps.
• Getting Out of Overwhelm? 2 steps.
• Setting Goals?  5 questions.
• Time Mastery?  3 Steps.
• Getting to the Bottom of your to-do list?  2 steps.

And once I started developing systems for EVERYTHING. I made a commitment to systemizing success like I never had before.

When I realized how simple it was to become a true leader and get exactly what I wanted from my life and my people, I knew it never had to be so hard again!  The success is in the systems!
